Coquilles Saint-Jacques
When it comes to food, Saint-Quay-Portrieux is the capital of the famous Coquille Saint-Jacques scallop. This emblematic shellfish is fished from November to April in the Bay of Saint-Brieuc. As a result, 5,700 tonnes of scallops are caught in the Bay of Saint-Brieuc – almost half of this shellfish's entire French production.
With its 150,000 hectares, the listed natural site of the Bay of Saint-Brieuc remains the most productive area in the Western Channel region. Here, regulated fishing aims to ensure a sustainable balance in the protection of resources.
